Hi.

I have an old acer laptop that has some important stuff on the hard drive, but the computer has a problem switching on.

I now have a macbook and wanted to know if I can take all the info from the acer and put it onto my mac.

Thanks.

the best way would to try using an external drive or a pen drive assuming your using the same operating system.

don't try to swap drives as some operating systems will try to format the drive hence all info will be deleted, unless you clone the drive using acronis

once youve got an external drive just copy and paste

Take out the hard drive and get an enclosure and turn it into an external USB drive.

click here you just need to find out if it is IDE or SATA

Thanks for the replies.

I'm slightly confused. I have a 500gb external hard drive, but cannot see how this will remove what I need as I can't power up the laptop.

Thanks.

postings. He is assuming you can turn the laptop on when you clearly state you can not.

Follow Strawballs posting and you wont go rong.

ignore the confusing posts from 'timsmith259' or whichever persona he is using this week....

Do as Strawballs says and take the harddrive out of the laptop, put it in an enclosure (or just get a cable like click here ) so that you can connect it to a USB port on the Mac as a new external drive. You can then just browse the drive and take off what data you want.

Thanks guy's.

I am looking for the cheapest option possible as I will be throwing the harddrive away once I've got what I want from it.

Would this be OK click here.

Thanks.

Yes that should do it okay.

I presume you have checked that it is a SATA drive in the laptop?
