Remote Call Procedure fail – PC auto-restarts

  djsew 18:15 18 Jan 2004

Just thought I'd help a fellow human-being next door, what have I got myself into!?!?

Problems reinstalling Win XP Home (baseline). While logged on to internet to obtain drivers, a warning appears which includes following “NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM” “ You must log-off and save...or lose it...” “Windows must shut down and restart because of Remote Call Procedure failure...” and a delay timer is counting down.

Tried the Win Help feature; it refers to firewalls. I have none setup.
Any clues please???

Another problem/nuisance is the appearance of ‘dubious’ messages, in a window headed Client Messenger. I don’t have Windows Messenger or MSN Explorer installed.

Could the two probs be related…

You have got the Blaster virus.

First Start, Run and type

shutdown -a

and click OK. This will give you more time.

Next, get the MS Patch. Without it you'll be reinfected every time you connect: click here

Then run either Stinger click here or the Norton removal tool click here or Microsoft's tool click here
