remote access to PC

I was asked to fix a friends PC via remote access, would sooner fix in person, but distance was an issue.

I established a link via Help and Support-Remote Assistance,which worked fine,problem solved.

Prior to this I tried Communications-Remote Desktop Connection, but the options that were available were for a LAN/Workgroup,the same network. There was no option to connect via IP,different network.

Am I missing something,or is there another option within XP which connects via an IP ?

This was my first attempt to establish a remote connection.

I use the free Teamviewer click here for this task with my brother - simple and effective to use.

Thanks for the link oldbeefer2.

Have tried using the IP,but we can open port 3389 on the PC, Zone Alarm is not that helpful, thanks ßeta
