relocating main pc upstairs

  mercedesjb 10:31 12 Sep 2006

I currently have my main p.c. downstairs.
i have a standard Network card in P.C. This is linked to a Wireless ADSL Router(Office Connect)
My son has a PC in his bedroom with a Wireless card, and everything works fine.
However, I want to re-locate my main PC upstairs in the spare bedroom.

Can I just plug the phone cable from the Router into a phone extension?? or does it have to be plugged into the Source?

Why not leave the router where it is and make the main PC wireless?

Yes you can plug into a phone extension lead. Remember the longer the lead the lower the quality of the signal going to the router.

The better alternative in the long term in my opinion is to invest in a wireless dongle ( when you can afford one), connect your router to the phone socket downstairs. and set up a complete wireless network. The advantage of this is that you have a better connection and also file sharing should work better also from memory, another thing is to make sure you use encryption security.

Hope this helps
