I've been told you can reinstall windows 98 without losing any of your settings, prog files, docs etc by putting in the disk and it comes up with an option of do you want to reinstall? but when i tried to do this all i got was install extra components. any suggestions?

If your computer refuses to boot from the CD. You will have to do it with a Floppy boot disc from click here Tenth file from top
