Regular reloading of software/OS

I have been told that it is prudent to strip everything off the computer & reload it, including operating system on a regulay basis - say once a year. Is this so or am I being misled.

I think you are being misled. A jolly good clean out, yes. But to reload the OS every year when it has no problems seems to be a bit like taking a sledgehammer to crack a nut.

My grandchildren have had their pc since Windows XP first came out, they have still got their original installation in theirs. If it is running okay and with no hitches I would leave it alone.

Only if your system is having major problems is it necesssary

Sad isn't it? I find it gives me something to do over the long boring Christmas break. Took me four days last time, but at least I was occupied.

Come on Dennis, it might cure your email problem. :-))

But sensibly, no, if you have something else to do, and the machine is ok.

I have discovered that my email problem seems to be caused simply by looking at my email account in Tiscali. I have complained and they are looking into it at their end after I had 3 contacts with their helpline. They have promised to ring me back in about 3 days. We shall see.
