REGEDIT courruption messages

A friend's PC has messages saying that there is registry corruption or there is a security alert. He is told to visit either;

click here
or
click here

to get the problem fixed.

I am suspicious of these two sites and wondered if anyone has experience of them. Are they genuine sites or sources of malware.

Any ideas would be most welcome.

Thanks,

Peter.

Thanks for the response.
Yes they are as you describe; one is actually headed from Microsoft.

Peter.

Almost certainly a scam. Turn off Messenger Service as described.

Thanks. I will try this today and report back.

As well as switching off the messenger, I also installed and ran a couple of spy ware progs. These showed up a number of trojans and malware which I deleted.

Since then there have been no further problems - thanks a lot!

Peter.
