i am new to computers.
When i click on hotmail or say HBSC bank a red shield with a warning cross comes up and says the certificate is no good and reccomends that i do not continue with this site. however as you know these sites are ok. i do not know where this is coming from and would like to disable it.If possible also an explanation of how this is happening?
Thanks in advance.

May help (or not) - I am assuming you use XP , more info needed for a more helpful answer;

To ensure that automatic root certificate updating is enabled in Windows XP;
Go to Control Panel, Add or Remove Programs.
Click Add/Remove Windows Components.
Check the box - Update Root Certificates
