Recycling 3 1/2 inch floppies

I'm tidying out my study and have a large number of 3 1/2 inch floppies and my present laptop doesn't have a floppy drive. Is there any way of recycling these rather than sending them to landfill?

Try asking at your local school if they would like them. I would have been glad of them when I was teaching.

I'm going to ask the local school, but I suspect that the answer will be one of "We've got lots from central supplies" or "We don't use floppies any more".

I can't really see the point of buying a usb floppy drive on the chance that at some time in the future I may want to send a file which is small enough to fit on a floppy to someone with a floppy drive on their computer. Broadband email does that job today.

Hi, a floppy drive can still come in useful in an emergency - faulty cd drive for instance, and needing to use emergency recovery disk. I have a usb floppy, very cheap and very convenient.
