Recycle DVD recorder hard drive?

I was having a look inside a DVD recorder I have which has died. With no HDMI connection it's not worth repairing, but it does have a Maxtor HDD 160 GB hard drive. On the label it says DiamondMax 10, SATA150 HDD.
I wonder, is there a fairly easy way of powering it and connecting to my computer running XP, via USB if possible?
I thought it might come in useful as an external hard drive.
I expect there's loads of technical reasons why it can't be done - but I'm curious.

I took an IDE drive from a HDD recorder connected it to my PC with an external case and with some software found on the net converted the files so I could watch the recorded programs on the PC.

I now use the drive for backups.

Take the Drive out and fit in a USB caddy, use it for backup of your PC

This is for a IDE drive click here check what you need it may b e SATA you would then need a Sata Caddy

Thank you both, I had no idea such cases existed.
I look forward to getting some more use out of this hard drive.
