I recently bought a new laptop but couldn't create a recovery cd during the setup because I'd ran of disks. Now a few days later, I have installed quite a lot of software on the laptop.

If I was to create a recovery cd now will I have one based on factory settings or based on the current state of the laptop?

Can you request a disk from Dell? I did not get any disks apart from the one for the drivers - is this nromal? And is it possible to download it from their website?

If you do it now (if it will let you often a one time only operation) you will get as the laptop is setup now.

If it won't let you then image the drive using free software click here or purchase the best imaging software Acronis click here

Thanks Fruit Bat, is there a particular one in that list that you recommend?

I think Clonezilla should do the job, plus there's an option in windows 7 to create a disk.
