Recovering data after crash

  12inches 12:34 14 Nov 2005

In Feb.05 my Windows98 PC crashed and data was lost.I now have new PC using XP. Driverescue was tried in attempt to recover data especially Family History which I had not backed up, with little success.
Is there another inexpensive or free idiot friendly program which I can download onto CD & which will hopefully recover data?
Thanks for your help. Derek

What part of your old PC died?

So long as it is not the Hard Drive that has been corrupted/damaged.

Take the Hard Drive out and put it into an empty External Hard Drive case, some times known as an HDD Enclosure and then plug that into an USB socket in your new machine..
