After a re-instal of Windows XP (home) all my stored emails in Outlook Express 6 have been carried over successfully - but I've lost the Address Book - a real miss!

Any hope of a recovery?

The extension for email contacts in Outlook Express is wab so do a search for *.wab on your PC and see if you can locate it.

Thanks chub_tor - - I've been repopulating my address bnook as best I can, so when I search using "wab", it takes me to this new version - and no sign of the older one. It also asks whether I want the Address Book to be the "default vCard". Don't know anything about this!

I expect the old Add. Book is well gone!

I appreciate your help!

You seem to need the info that is on www.insideoe.com/sitemap click here

"default vCard" a vCard is a Business Card (your details from your address book are attached to your email message). I would suggest you don't do this.

For more details, open OE, click on Help, and in the Index keyword box search for 'vcard'

Yes, you can recover your lost address book also using third party tool. I would advice you to try Kernel for Outlook Express Recovery Software for the recovery of your emails, folders, address book and other items from .dbx file successfully.

Thanks folks - - I note well what your are saying to me!

What's lost is lost! I'll no doubt get back the addresses eventually.

So that you don't loose it again in the future do the following on a regular basis.

On the File menu click Export, then Address Book.

Click Text File (Comma Separated Values), then Click Export

Click Browse

Locate the Mail Backup Folder that you created.

In the File Name box type the Address Book backup then click Save

Click Next

Select the check boxes for the fields that you want to Export then click Finish

Click OK then Click Close.

In the event that you do loose your Address book again its a simple matter to Import the saved Backup file.
