Recommendations for a new PC build

Hi All,

My father-in-law, who’s in his mid 60s, has asked me to build a basic PC for him to use. It will mainly be used for the Internet and E-Mail, basic photo tweaking software, watching DVDs and listening to music..and maybe the occasional game or two.

I have a spare tower with 350W PSU, DVDRom drive and modem for him, but am unsure what is the best motherboard and CPU to go for. It will have XP on it so I’ll also need at least 256MB RAM.

I was thinking in terms of AMD Duron 1.8GHz, but am unsure of the mobo. It will need USB for a printer/scanner and also on-board sound and graphics to keep the cost down.

Also I was thinking of a 20/30GB hard drive.

All suggestions will be appreciated.

Regards

Dumfy

Have a look at Novatech.co.uk and their mobo bundles - can be very reasonably priced, and are preassembled and soak tested for you.
