Recognising which Processor to buy

  buckleboy 22:13 15 Feb 2004

I currently have a Packard Bell iconnect pc, this has a Gigabyte i810 1.3A motherboard ,with a intel celeron processor, bus clock 100 megahertz. 192 mb memory installed. The information i have just given is double dutch to me, my question is i am considering upgrading my processor, what is a socket 370 or socket 478 and how do i know which i have in. Do i have to replace it with another celeron or can it be a pentium?, how big a processor will my motherboard take?, do i have to change anything else also?. Sorry for all the questions , but you have all been so helpful before, i know answers will come in and help me understand all this jargon. I will be glad to supply any further information i can.
