Is Realplayer safe to use?

  peter99co 15:12 15 Feb 2009

I used to have Realplayer installed and heard it was not safe because it uploaded info from your machine. I do not know if I misunderstood but I uninstalled it.
I then found that my DVD player did not work properly. I read on the forums that this is due sometimes as a result of uninstalling realplayer.
I see Radio 4 uses Realplayer to listen to some of it's broadcasts and would have to install Realplayer to listen.
This causes me to wonder if anyone knows the true facts as to it's use.

RealPlayer has to be configured to do exactly as you wish, rather than Real.

Try Real Alternative:

There's also QuickTime Alternative:

Safe yes, but an appalling piece of junk. Follow Stuartlis' advice and use Real Alternative.

The K-Lite Video and Audio Packs are similar but not the same as the RealPlayer concept.

I fully agree with Stuartli re Real Alternative - it is far less intrusive.

Thank you for your responses. I will follow yor advice to choose alternative.

Will it still run the Radio 4 output though?

just need you advice, I thought k-lite would play all realplayer options if you ticked them during set up, is this not the case?

Yes, plays radio well.
