really bad jerky sound on windows xp?

Hi,
Someone I know has brought there relativly new laptop to me because she is having problems with it.
Apart from being very slow ( have cleaned out all the spyware now)

The sound is terrible and very jerky sound. It is as if thousands of things are running and because it is that slow the sound is struggling to keep up. I have tried alsorts but I do not know what to do. you cant listen to music or nothing

Can anyone help me at all?

by the way it took 10 minutes if not more to fully load up windows.

60gb hard drive
512mb ram
amd
1.57 ghz

xp home

vista capable

is that ok?

Click start/run ,type in msconfig
Click on the start up tab,and disable all programs from starting up at boot apart from firewall and anti-virus.
Re boot laptop,see if that helps for a start.

Also run Ccleaner
click here
To give laptop a spring clean.
Have you run any anti-virus software

If you still having trouble with sound,check in device manager for any probs with the sound card drivers

Have you done the msconfig and the reg cleaner.
Mght be worth seeing if it needs a defrag
