It appears that the hard disk on my Evesham PC has decided to call it a day (the recovery CD states that it cannot detect the presence of a hard drive). Although it has been hinting for a while that something was wrong (and thanks to this forum I've always been able to sort out any problems) I was hoping it would hold out 'til Windows Vista. If I buy and install a new hard drive, would the Evesham Recovery / Support CD be able to re-install Windows ME on the new drive? Would any new hard drive work, or is there a certain drive I should buy for my PC?
I thought it dies with the machine not just the drive. I have XP Pro OEM on my daughters machine and when the C drive went belly up I installed a new drive re-installed windows from the disc using the key that came with it and reactivated it online NO problems!
Get a new drive (you need one anyway) and install it, try the recovery dik, if it doesn't work, you are mo worse off, go back to the vendor of the hard drive and ask nicely if you can have oem windows (explain that you forgot to order it with your drive)
Just bought a new Maxtor 80Gb hard drive - and yes the WinME recovery disk did re-install the OS. PC is very fast compared to what it was! Only problem now is although I can go online, it cannot access my home network (BT wireless 1250). Our other computers are (USB) wireles, but this one is via a USB lead into modem/router.
Thanks for your suggestion Fruit Bat /\0/\. I'm quite sure that I had placed a tick in the Resolved? box seeing as the original problem stated in this thread was solved. Shall place a tick again. I'm going to start a new thread for this problem.
