Re-installed OS and "lost" 100 Gig

  Rich_B 12:39 12 Aug 2007

Hi there,
Can anyone help. I have a PC whish had some serious visus issues, so I went for a re-install. The HDD is 255 Gb, but when installing Win XP Home the only partition offered was 130Gb.

Perhaps I was stupid, but I went ahead and Xp is now installed OK, but I have lost all but the 130 Gb.

Anyone got any ideas. I guess it isn't the end of the world, but I don't want to lose it.

Check first in Disc Management !

Start / Right click My Computer / Manage / What is shown ?

Are you sure you do not have two partitions ?

Install service pack 2 then it will see all of your drive.

As Jim says, can you confirm if running sp2 ?

If not visit Microsoft updates, install the service pack and updates and reboot.

As jimv7 says, you need to use a xp disc with sp2 on it, you can create one from an original xp disc with sp2 slipstreamed onto it, i did it using autostreamer. have a look here.

Excellent! Many thanks guys. I haven't done it yet, but I am sure you are right. I'll do it right after I have sorted the small matter of getting drivers for the LAN card :D
