The red cross symbol appears when the browser cannot display an image. There are a number of reasons why this may happen. The most usual cause is that the web site is busy or is suffering technical problems and the image can't be retrieved (in much the same way that a whole web-page sometimes cannot be retrieved). Click the 'Reload' button on the AOL toolbar. If this doesn't work, right-click on the red cross and select 'Show picture' from the pop-up menu. (Occasionally there may an error in the web page code or the image has not been uploaded by the writer of the site. If this is the case then the above tips will have no effect and you will not be able to view the image.) If the above tips did not work, it is possible that you have a corrupted copy of the file in your temporary cache. To clear your temporary cache open AOL and click 'Customise' on the toolbar. Select 'Preferences' and then 'Internet Properties (WWW)'. In the 'AOL Internet Properties' window that appears, select the 'General' tab. Click the 'Delete Files' button in the middle, then click 'Ok'. Now reload the page.
