Randomly USB optical mouse not activated

  newearwax 19:44 17 Dec 2009

Some times on booting my system (XP Home SP3) the Windows log on screen appears with my user name.

Sometimes the mouse id not activated, so I have to close down and reboot.

Can some one tell me likely reason, and the cure.

BTW I have tried various USB ports.

I had a similar problem not so long ago it seemed to be software conflict which i could not resolve for some reason.
I went through the process of uninstalling ports re-asigning that sorta stuff, scanned PC from top to bottom. DE NADA..
SO went and bought a USB PCI card for about £4.00 problem solved...

If that's the case "Rats!" :D
(but not to you)

But it happens fairly rarely, so is it likely that the mouse is on the way out, and not some other glitch?

Fair test would be to try another mouse at this stage, if the problem persists you will know if it is more PC related.
Having said that sometimes looking for issues is a fruitless task that is why i did what i did.
Everything else on my PC works perfectly well including the other USB devices...
