Random shutdown

Hello all,
Have read several other postings and think I may have a faulty PSU. PC will swich off at random or may take 10 attempts to boot up. Is there any means of checking it that anyone can suggest? When I mention it people I know (More tech than myself) they seem to dismiss PSU as the problem and suggest memory or CPU faults. I need to resolve this as problem is getting more and more frequent. I wellcome any suggestions.

Thanks Ray

If there are no error messages I would get a new psu.

I can understand a PSU working properly or not working at all, it is the in between bit that puzzles me i.e. sort of works sometimes. Is this a common PSU thing. I don`t know whether it is actually faulty or maybe just not powerful enough.
Can anyone suggest a suitable replacement please.

Thanks Ray
