I need your help... My computer has developed a mind of its own. It restarts randomly. I've tried reinstalling Windows but I THINK (not sure) it restarted before even making it to Windows today. Slightly embarrasing when it's playing music in a show at school which is where I first had a problem with it happening.... It just dies and restarts.
Spec as follows (if that helps):
- AMD Duron 1.3GHz - 256MB DDR RAM - Inno3D GeForce 4 Graphics (64MB DDR) - Creative SoundBlaster 4.1 digital sound card - TV card (maybe relevant - i dunno!) - Windows XP Professional SP2
You may have a point... WinXP needs, at least, 128meg RAM, but prefers 256megs and even then there are problems.... Your system MAY run better with 512meg RAM or higher (baring in mind that the RAM doesn't make that much of a difference to performance)
It always used to run fine. It's a fresh installation of Windows so there won't be (or shouldn't be) any software problems or any viruses. Hardware is about the same as it always has been so I don't think there are many problems. As I say, it always used to be fine and very little has been changed (if anything) since when I didn't have the problems.
Random restarting might be down to something as simple as the on/off button on the front panel sticking, and randomly 'turning the pc off'...
If you PC is one where the switch is mounted in the metal chassis, and the button you press is on a detachable plastic fron panel, try removing the plactic front panel, and seeing of either the palctic button, or the actual switch seems to be 'sticking'...
