RAM problem with new CPU (Q6600)

  gartoye 06:45 15 Jan 2008

Old Spec:
Cpu = Intel Duo E6300
Mobo = Gigabyte P965 Ds3 rev 1.1 Bios F12
RAM = Corsair Value Select 667 (x4 512MB)

New Components:
Cpu = Intel Q6600 (Go)
RAM = Geil Ultra Low Latency 800 (x4 1GB)

O/S= XP Home

Hi all

The plan was to fit the above components to provide a good platform for Vista later in the year. Since fitting the Q6600 I am unable to run any RAM in banks 0 & 1. Banks 3 & 4 accept the new RAM (& the old 667) but anything in banks 0 & 1 fails to boot.

I have the latest Bios revision which includes an upgrade to run the quad cpu, but have not increased my total amount of RAM & of course no longer have dual channels.

I really wanted to get away without having to buy a new Mobo, I am unable to refit the old cpu with the new RAM as it went in a PC I built as an Xmas gift for a family member.

As a result I have a box of Geil RAM sitting by the PC & 2 empty slots on the mobo.
I think my mobo may need replacing but really want to try to avoid this & all the hassle associated with reinstalling the O/S.

Anyone have any ideas? Any suggestions will be much appreciated.

I have run out of ideas to try, any help will be much appreciated, thanks.
