RAM Help

Hello all at PCadvisor

I have just purchased my very first Laptop and want to upgrade my RAM - it currently has 256MB not a great deal at all as it lags in speed

I want to add some new RAM possibly a 1GB but have no idea how many pins i require - i have been searching Google for help and found a few progs to try and help me pinpoint what i need - but can't find the model of my Motherboard - i have found the belo info so i'm hoping you guys maybe able to help me out

Try Crucial click here and use there scanner online.
They guarantee there ram to be compatible or money back.

It's not a new laptop then, VillaB6?

The guys above are talking about running the scanner on the Crucial site. you don't need to know the make of the laptop to run the scanner.

Try SIW click here Hardware > Memory.

Also Belarc Advisor click here - it will tell you how many empty slots you have.

Did you install the active x prompt ?

Then look under motherboard and post back the details.

You're using older SDRAM, VillaB6, so you'll need something like this click here. The fact that the laptop is an older type makes it difficult to know exactly the max size of module it will take, that's why running the scanner was suggested. You might be better to open the cover on the back of the laptop to see if one of the slots is free, or if you have two memory modules already in there (2*128MB modules).
