ram compatibillity help

i am looking to upgrade my ram and need some info.i have two slots capable of 4 gig in total,i have a 1 gig stick of ddr made by pny it is 3200 333 ghz speed ,my original one was 2700 which i had in as well but had to take out as the speed conflict was making my pc crash all the time.if i buy another 1 gig stick will it cause a conflict if it says it is ddr 400 mhz and compatible to 3200 as i want to be rure first or shoule i look for the exact sane ie 3200 333 mhz 1 gig stick as i dont want to buy and find i am getting crashes from memory conflicts.thanks

Use a memory adviser tool such as Crucials` click here it will tell you what you can fit.

PC3200 is also known as DDR400.
PC2700 is also known as DDR333.
You say you have a stick of 3200 333mhz which is impossible.
You motherboard may only be capable of PC2700 DDR333 speeds but a stick of PC3200 DDR400 will work ok in it, it will just work as DDR333 ie slower.
To match sticks you should have the same speed (but not essential), but more importantly, the timings eg 2-3-3-5 or 3-4-4-7 have to be the same.

thanks i have used crucial.i have a 1 gig stick and yes your right ditch999 i have a 3200 speed and its ddr400 the mobo had 256mb ddr 2700 and i replaced with the 1 gig 3200 as crucial told me it was compatible.i will just go with the matching stick i bought and pair it with tthat so,thanks again im using xp by the way cheers
