RAID Configuration & XP/Vista

First, let me apologise in advance,I am new at this and learning by my stupid mistakes!
I had to reinstall Windows XP because of sound problems, this caused more havoc but thanks to the help I got on here I think I have things sorted except the RAID array.
There were two hard drives in a mirrored array, I have copied the F6 raid drivers from my support cd onto a floppy.I think I can follow the proceedure(providing nothing goes wrong!)to install.
Anyhow I was reading up on this and saw somewhere that if you were installing Vista, there was no need for the floppy as most raid drivers were preloaded on the cd.As it happens I had purchased a copy of Vista to install prior to all the problems.
Would I be better trying to install Vista or continuing with XP, until I have everything back as it was?
If I install Vista, is it best to make up an updated drivers disc for everything first and store it ready to load after install?
