"IMINENT" HAS TAKEN OVER IE

A neighbour of mine has recently found that IE and his search engine Google have been taken over by a program/virus called "Iminent" which runs its own advert-riddled browser. It has disabled IE and all other WEB browsers except "Opera". I advised him to clear his cache, cookies etc and run AVG, his anti-virus software but he informs me that AVG has also been disabled. Has anybody a solution to this problem?
