QuickTime alters system path

After having recently enquired of Real as to the availability of an update or not, I have discovered that my system path has been reset to PATH=C:\program files\quicktime\QTSystem. I've put it back to what I want it to be by using the SET PATH command but when I restart, it goes back to the QT stuff and I have to manually reset it again. How do I stop it doing that? And as a supplementary, if I uninstall QuickTime (which I don't think I ever use) is there anything that will stop working\be affected in any way?

I have XP Pro SP2.

There should be no problems after you uninstall QuickTime.

I'll tick as resolved and uninstall - not the best solution but probably the quickest!
