Pentium 3 processor, 40 Gig HDD, want to load XP Professional. What would you recommend as minimum memory?

FYO: To settle an argument at work.

Cheers Kev

"recommend as minimum memory?"

512 minimum, as per johnnyrocker

1Gb if you can, speeds it up

i used to run xp pro on a pent 500 with 386 sd ram it ram ok. but would recommend 1g so you can run more at once, not used it for gaming.

I was meaning ram

The minimum size of the harddrive is relative to the data you wish to store on it.

Nothing wrong with hard drives that are 40Gb or less.

Op Sys XP will not take up more than 5-7Gb (and that's including SP updates)

microsoft say 1.5Gb for basic install click here

I am trying to get a basic XP load on our Clients machines so that they can connect their equipment to an ASL line. They have loads of machines running assorts of crap.

The best they can manage is P3, 80gig and 256 ram.

I am trying to get them to pay for mother boards and memory, and in some cases Bios upgrades.

They are trying to say 'You provide tech support so get our machines working!

I would love to do so, if I have the right info!

Cheers Kev
