Quick Time won't show video tutorials - why?

Hi,can anyone help me with the above problem please? I found a photographic site i like that tutors via videos but when i try to download them, with their permission of course, quick time says it needs to download new softwear, then it say there is none and i still cannot get the video tutorials. This is frustrating so how can i solve this problem?

What format are the video files?
i.e. the last three letters after the dot.

Fruitbat, it doesn't say as the videos don't have a save button, so as soon as you click it it downloads so no file format given. Guess i need a programme that uses all the different formats, but which one? and why does it automatically open in quick Time, can i change that and how?

How about a link to the Photo site in question so that we can have a look.
