Quick question: Do I need Surf for broadband?

Hi, I should have my line activated in 7 days time so that I can start using PlusNet broadband for £21.99 a month. I'm currently on Freeserve HomeTime for £6.99 a month I think with the BT Surf Together package. Once I have cancelled my account with Freeserve, do I still need the Surf thing to use broadband? Or can I just pay for the normal line rental and still use broadband? Looked at this on BT's website but they mention Surf is for unlimited internet but don't specify whether this is just for dial-up or not. Any help please? Thanks.
