Question xp 1800 cpu

  Â ÑÌÇKÑÂMË 15:32 07 Jun 2003

Hi there, right this just for a second opinion more than anything i got 1800xp cpu and set up but can only run it at 1190 odd cos it locks up if i set bios to 133/133.I think it cos i only got
pc 100 ram cos it dont lock up at 100/100 so am i right in thinkin if i get 133 ram i can set it right.ECS mobo recognises chip and boots at 133/133 but hangs after couple mins.

Yes, if you've only got PC100 then there is no way it will accept running at 133.

Ty, thought that what it was but rather than take cpu back thought i would get second opinion, pity there isnt a settin 133/100 in bios lol.

there is a setting in ECS bios 100/133

try that and see if it works, but 133 SDRAM OR 2100DDR is the best option, then you can run at full steam.

i have the 1800+ on a ECS K7S5A mb with 256 DDR MEMORY , it runs at 1.54mhz (133/133 in bios)

if you are buying new memory go for DDR2100, its cheaper than SDRAM & quicker.

good luck

ps some people have had trouble running 133/133 on the ECS K7S5A boards, luckily i didnt.... the answer if it wont work, is maybe a bios upgrade, but only think about that as a last resort....

Ty FOR THAT ,I DID UPGRADE THE BIOS SOME TIME AGO TO BE ABLE TO RUN THE XP CHIPS AND IT DOES RECOGNISE IT,lol, sorry caps i got same mobo as you and it been brill i think i need new ram and im my bios there is 100/133 setting but it the wrong way round ie:100 cpu 133 ram but not one for the 133 cpu 100 ram so i can still run cpu at full steam.

P.S just realised you run yours at 1.54 mhz is this the correct speed? i had 1200 cpu before and it ran at 1197 that was 3 below 12 but 15 seems a tad wastefull on 18 lol.

The 1800+ is a revamped core and would be the equivalent of a Classic Athlon 1800.

1,54 is the correct speed.

ty all for you help ram nedded regards.

Just AMDs way of trying to outdo Intel, 1800amd = 1.8Ghz intel but actualy runs at 1.54Ghz

the new 3200+ AMD runs at a paltry 2.8Ghz and actually costs £100 more than a P4 2.8Gig pentium

  Rayuk 17:20 09 Jun 2003

I think you will find that the 3200+ runs at an even more paltry 2.2GHz
