Question for Access?

Hi,

I've just started to use Access, and was wondering if there is a way to set the ID number to recur through out its tables? At the moment, I have about 15 tables in one database, but all set indivual IDs per table...

Hope that makes sense?

Thanks

Welcome to the wonderful world of relational databases and the importance of designing it before trying to make it, as backtracking is frequently a pain in the but if possible.

Each table will set individual ID's. Why do you want them to be the same? If you want to relate a unique number to each table then you probably need to set up another table and set up a relationship.

Something like this discussion may help:

The basical principle being to have a separate table to store your custom autonumber, then put some code on each form so that it gets the maximum number from the control table and updates it each time you add a record.
