Question about changeable laptop part..

Yesterday and today, I have been investigating inside my laptop because I had a white line on my screen (now replaced by Dell as part of warranty) and while we was working on it, I noticed a chip on the motherboard that looks like a smaller CPU. After the engineer left, I examined this chip some more - it was really hard to get the chip's ID but I managed it - it is a intel BD82HM67.

I am wondering, what is this chip for, and what benefits do you get from upgrading? I looked on the intel website and it has graphics specs sections so I am wondering if upgrading this would add the ability to add dedicated graphics/switchable graphics to the default Intel HD graphics built onto the Intel core i3 sandy bridge CPUs.
