PSU Question

  pepe 18:37 28 Mar 2003

I need to replace my PSU, and I know what I need (ATX etc), but what confuses me is the Watt Rating on the PSU. I have a 300 watt at the moment, and as it has to go can I replace it with a 500 watt, or am I in danger of frying my mobo. Does more Watts equel more power. Any advice welcomed. Thanks

500w is fine. The system will only pull the power that it needs.

The more hard drives/optical drives high end graphics cards cpu you have the more power you will need.
The higher the quality the better.

Many thanks to both respondents. Rayuk, a good site, found all the info I require, This forum excels itself again.

I must expand on something Rayuk said - definitely avoid cheap and nasty. The quality of a power supply is MUCH more important than the output. I favour Enermax.
