Can anyone help me out pl? On certain sites I'm getting the message: IExplorer caused a general protection fault in module USER.EXE at 001c:000013b8 etc. and closes down. I am using explorer 6

Go to add/remove programs, select Internet Explorer 6 and double click it. You should be given the option to repair, select it and click ok.

If you have a PCA cover disc you can re-install it from that. Just put the disc in and install over the top of the current version.

I've tried EVERYTHING I was asked to do: repair (twice just in case); re downloading IE6 including its patch; deltree history and check boxes in Internet options in control panel to no avail. What else can be done??

You might have too many BHO (Browser Helper Objects) installed - you pick these up as you go around the net.

Download and run HijackThis click here and use the Introduction here click here to get rid of all "O2 - BHOs"

Should have been

....to get rid of all "O2 - BHOs" that you don't recognise.

if not sure then post back with the BHOs it finds and we can advise...

Re the last suggestion I deleted the last file i.e O16 but the fault is still there.

  Jester2K II 12:58 12 Aug 2003

Have you checked Windows Update?

  fakir 13:16 12 Aug 2003

Yes, already downloaded IE6 with its cumulative pack
