On start up i have a dialog box that comes up with windows instaler. this then changes to installing
MVCpromo. after a while this then becomes a windows installer package error. i have searched my hard drive for MVCpromo, but no program files are found. any ideas of how to stop this from appearing at start up

MVCpromo seems to be a company that supposedly specialises in promotions for various companies that market varied products.
I have done a search and found that a number of people have had this same message that seemed to be linked to Trojan activity.
If you have had no dealings with this company or intentionally visited the site..You may have picked up a "nasty" !
Can you start your machine in Safe Mode and do a Spyware scan or an Antivirus scan to see if there is any reference to you having picked up any possible spyware etc:

Download the free version of MBAM

Update it then do a quick scan

Let it remove what it finds,

MBAM/ Malwarebytes/ Antimalware click here

It may be a corrupted installer package,

Use this to remove MVCpromo

Windows Installer CleanUp Utility click here

Once its installed you can find it in All Programs
