My pc is running XP home, but i seem to have a prog that looks like is hanging making pc system run like a snail. I cant get into Task manager - wont let me (does nothing when selected). But when shutting pc down i get the end prog (prog is called: winsupdater.exe) have checked in the installed software and its not there. also ran spybot & all clear (have zonealarm too).

Anyone got any ideas??

Winsupdater.exe is a virus.
If you go to this link and post a HJT log, someone will help you get rid of it.

winsupdater - winsupdater.exe - Process Information

Process File: winsupdater or winsupdater.exe
Process Name: [email protected] worm

Description:
winsupdater.exe is a process which is registered as the [email protected] worm. This virus is distributed via the Internet through e-mail and comes in the form of an e-mail message, in the hopes that you open it’s hostile attachment. The worm has it’s own SMTP engine which means it gathers E-mails from your local computer and re-distributes itself. In worst cases this worm can allow attackers to access your computer, stealing passwords and personal data. It is a registered security risk and should be removed immediately.

Do as the other replies suggest and get yourself a decent AV or do a scan online at click here
