Product key help needed!

  chippyman 12:02 11 May 2009

Do not have much of a clue when it comes to PCs so any help much appreciated.
Bought cheap PC from Asda, Evesham something or other.
Can't use any microsoft office program as it asks for Product key saying the trial has run out.
Enter product key that is on a sticker on the tower but says not valid!
Please help, how can the product key on the sticker not be valid?
Like i said, don't really know alot about computers. Package on sticker says it is 'Windows Vista Home Basic OEMAct'
can give product key if this helps.

Your Office trial would have been for 60 days. The product key on your PC is for Windows Vista, not Microsoft Office. Unless you want to buy Office, which you can pick up for £60 if you shop around, you should remove the trial (click the Start orb, click Control Panel, click Programs And Features, select Microsoft Office, select Uninstall) and install OpenOffice, which is a free replacement. click here

Surprised that it's an 'Evesham something or other' as they went out of business some time ago (over a year?).

not wanting to sound pedantic here, but Open Office is not a 'free replacement'. It's a free *alternative* program to MS Office.

Chippyman, as your trial has now expired, then you will need to either purchase MS Office, or find an alternative word processing program. Open Office is an alternative. Just didn't want you to be misled, given your apparent lack of knowledge of these things, which you stated in your post.

Yes, I take your point Marko797
