  muzza 00:33 24 May 2008

  sinbads 00:35 24 May 2008

  muzza 00:38 24 May 2008

excuse me if I'm being dumb, but I'm on my desktop. The laptop in question, I can't use because it keeps asking for the key which is invalid.
Can I use that link to find the key on the recovery cd.
If I put that recovery cd in my desktop would it cause me bother?!!

  sinbads 00:56 24 May 2008

Sory not read your previous postings your keycode is on your hard drive and unless you can run your lappy magic bean won't be anygood.

"Initially the machine was preinstalled with Vista basic. The recovery medium is Premium !!
Help oh help oh help!!!

If it was originally basic and you are loading premium then your keycode wont work / are you trying to upgrade? not sure what options you have ;but you need to load basic.

Yes so don't do it. At least you have one working PC.
Inform where you bought the laptop that when you used the recovery cd you got an invalid Windows key.
If bought from second hand such as ebay, etc, then you'll have to pay for a new licence.

Can I ring Toshiba or Microsoft and ask for a code?
This is a genuine Tosh recovery disk, but obviously the wrong version. It was supplied with the machine when new.

Bought from PC world. 1 year ago today!!

Only got it back yesterday after having new HDD put in.

Go to PC World. Methinks someone there has dropped the proverbial bullocks. Be pollite and ask them to validate your version of Windows.
Once they do then ask them, quite politely, for the new key. Sigh....

  muzza 01:18 24 May 2008

Will try that. If no success, then maybe Toshiba.
I have found that in the past Microsoft are quite helpful in giving product keys when you've lost one, but that was for a "full" versiion of XP prof...

I have to say I've had a belly full of Vista.
Whatever happened to 98SE. I loved that lol
