Product Key

Hi, I have just changed my motherboard and xp home spat its dummy out. I dont have a xp disc as it was preinstalled on the pc when i got it, A friend lent me his copy so i could use the repair option, But when it asks for the product code it wont except my code, My code is legal as it was installed on the pc that was bought from pc world and has all the documents and the key on the side of the case. Could i put my friends product key in to get started ( i know you cant use the same key for 2 computers ) and then change it to my product key later so it registers with my key and i can then use it to download microsoft updates. Thanks

You XP was probably an OEM version which means it was fixed to the system (including motherboard) of the computer it was first installed into.

Yes i think it is an oem version, so where do i go from here. Xp discs are too expensive for me at the mo so i cant buy another one and install it.
