Prod Key for XP Home

My XP Home is pre-installed.
On first run, instructions were to enter the Product Key which was to be found on back of Tower.
Before time limit ended, XP had to be activated, which was duly done.
Now it is found that the Product Key revealed, from the registry, by Aida32 is a different Product Key.
The question is..............
In the event of a re-installation/repair of XP and if the Product Key is asked for, which product key should be entered?
The one on the label on the back of the tower, or the one now present in the registry?
Of course the Product ID has remained the same.

The one on the tower.

Okay thanks. I assumed that the Key changed when activation took place.

Possibly when the machine was setup, a wrong key was used (valid, but not the one with the sticker on the side). Go with the one on the side of the machine, but keep the Aida one just in case there is a problem.

Yes. When I got the machine home and set it up (e-Machines) then fired up it, it asked for the product key which it said was on the booklet or on the tower. The label had been removed from the booklet and placed on the tower.
This I did, and the next thing to do was to go through the activation process.
It was some time later when I was looking for something else that I noticed that the Key in the registry was not the same as the key I entered. Hence the question.
I have noted them both down just in case.

Product key may be different to the product ID.

  Pita BT 16:32 23 Feb 2004

Yes it is. I am not confused about the difference between the two. The product ID in the registry is the same as the one on the box.
It is the Product Key which changed some time after entry into the system.

Fiar enough... it was just an idea.
