Processor speed?

I've just bought a motherboard bundle from Novatech (Order Code MBB-X28IG) which comes preinstalled with an AMD XP 2800 processor.

I thought the speed was 2.08 GHz, but when i go to Control Panel/System I see that it's listed as 1.24 GHz.

What's going on here?

Thank you.

FSB probably needs resetting in BIOS

you need to change the fsb speed in the Bios from 100 to 166.

re-stat your p/c and press the delete button to enter the Bios and work through the various options until you find the right one.

I've had a look through the BIOS and found the following :

FSB Spread Spectrum which is disabled but can be set to 0.5% or 1%.

The CPU External Frequency is set to 100MHz, and the manual tells me that the FSB isequal to twice this value. I can set the CPU External Frequency in increment of 1, 2, 3 or 5 MHz. Various options can take it up to 211 MHz.
What should I set it to?

The CPU External Frequency is set to 100MHz, Change it to 133

Or even 166

I'll go and try both now and see what happens.....

The 2800+ will be a 166fsb

Thanks!
I set it to 166 and the processor is now being reported as the correct 2.08 GHz.

There is also the option to set it to 200.
Would that damage anything; is there any advantage in setting it to 200?

If you set it to 200 you'll will be overclocking, and this cand damage the CPu if there isnt sufficient cooling
