Processor running at half speed

  Les53 21:34 04 Oct 2007

i have just acquired a Dell optiplex 160L and it has a 2.4 Pentium 4 hyper threading technology processor installed.
Question why do it only runs at 1.2ghz.

there is no setup feature in the bios to change the multiplier.

i can seem to find much information on the i845g motherbord chipset.
any ideas?

I had a look earlier it did have default or the lower compatibility, but i couldn't see a way to change much.
should i have changed it to the lower option?

Is it running at 1.2Ghz when ticking over, if so thats probably right. Give it some intensive programs to run. See if the cpu speed jumps up.

i did a test on the web and at best it was just under 1.2ghz

the aida32 programme clock it at 1200

i noticed it had 256mb pc2100 and 256mb pc2700 would this make any difference.

How could i find it this processor was std when built or has it been upgraded. the motherboard is so basic it unbelivable that it's got such a processor.

the difference in ram should make no difference unless the motherboard supports dual channel memory.

I'm trying to look at the manual from dell but the server is painfully slow and keeps stopping.

in the mean time, what operating system are you using. what is the size of the hard drive and what free space does it have and what anti virus system do you run on it.

You could look in the bios, for the reset to default settings Les.

Have not researched the board and bios.

Try running the free program SIW click here to try and identify your motherboard. It will also give you loads of info about your system.
