Processor maxed out!

Hope you can help

I am running an AMD 1094MHz procesor with 512MB RAM. Everything is fine, but occassionally my processor will max out at 100% and need rebboting. It seems to do this regardless of the load that is being put on it. The RAM is never maxed out. I have checked for viruses and cleared spyware, but the problem remains.

Any help would be very much appreciated.

You could try something like this to stop it click here, then find out which task is causing the problem.

In my case this was down to the network card drivers - the NVIDIA ones caused the problem - Vista default drivers didn't - I suspect and issue between the drivers and Vista network optimisation. I proved it by disabling the network card in device manager and worked from there,

Also try disabling automatic updates from Microsoft briefly and reboot.
You can always download the updates manually.
