processor fan

I the fool that i am tried to upgrade my cpu fan now i'm used to the screw in method when installing a processor cooler but my new pc has the clips u twist and pull out soundede easy only trouble is i cant get the old fan out twisted pulled the clip up but it dos,ent budge i have taken the mother board out to get behind but the clips still won't budge is there a nack to this ????

Assuming its a 4 pin (newer pentiums, socket 775) configuration you should be able to get it off by gently squeezing the white plastic pegs protruding from the back of the motherboard, making sure the black plastic is pulled fully upwards. Each one might click as it frees from the motherboard, you should then be able to carefully remove the heatsink & fan assembly.
