I have to enter a lot of dates in cells on a spreadsheet. The problem I have is when I enter 02/01 it changes to Jan-07 (in the formula bar it says 02/01/2007)! I want it to say Feb-01. It also happens when I enter 03/03 it changes to Mar-07 (in the formula bar it says 03/03/2007) instead of Mar-03. Whats happening!!!??

Select the cells that you will be entering dates in. Format > Cells > Number tab, select Date in the left hand pane and in the right hand pane click on 'Mar-98' (or similar) and click OK.

That hasn't worked. I must add anything before 2000 works ok e.g 10/94 comes up as it should Oct-94. Its anything 00 on

Try a custom format dd-mmm

No good, I have about 5000 rows which need to be in the same format so I need to highlight the column so they are all the same.

Are you using Excel? If so, which version?

Yes, 2003.

I'm using Excel at present and formatting a column as I suggested works for me. I cannot understand why this would not work in Excel 2003, sorry.

Oops - using Excel 2000.
