Probs connecting to internet via wireless network

Have taken my wireless enabled laptop travelling and have managed to connect to a network called Linksys that is showing as unsecured but i cannot actually get onto the internet. What do i have to do to actually connect to the net? Do i need to change some setting on my laptop?

Am running XP SP2 and have Netgear Wireles Network Card. When im at home i don't have any problems.

Any help appreciated.

Well, it depends if the network you connected to is actually connected to the "net".

Ahhhhhhhhh......of course!! Good thinking! Doh.

You may see the Internet connection but it may not let you connect as it will have a SSID you need to know and there may be other settings even though it says unsecured. How thay set it up can still stop you connecting. you could try this they may not have changed the password for router Type in the blank Web page address or press enter after each try

Do not change any settings if you can get in, but just look for SSID

Thanks, i'll give that a go.

Do you have permission to get on this connection?

  woodchip 19:08 08 Jul 2005

NO but I had been doing some work on the computer for free, for him so he let me go on for nothing never thought to check while I was on. He left it switched on when he went home doing nothing
