When I run my Norton security check my PC crashes. It doesn't crash straight away, it will get a certain way through and then crash. Any ideas??? Thanks.

Reduce the running software to the minimum required. Every program running in the background has the potential to affect your system in ways that can cause PC tests to fail.

Yes we've tried that but it still crashes.

What part of the security check is it, if it crashes in the same place from the same part of the prog you may be able to pinpoint where and why.
It may be your security settings are too high, it may be virus related..

As SANTOS7 says. What Check?

Which version of Norton?

What other programs have you got Loaded/Running. Including things like Screen-savers?

What are the Specifications of your PC and what is it's OS?

What kind of crash? Does your system freeze? Switch off? Displays any error messages?

What Norton product do you run? NIS 2006/2007?

If you suspect the crash might be Virus related you could at least run Norton Anti-Virus in safe mode.

Tab F8 on boot up>go into safe mode> click 'my Computer'>right click 'local disc' and chose 'Scan with Norton Anti-Virus'.

This will attempt scanning your HDD. See if it crashes again.

One more thing: It is more than advisable to turn off your system restore feature (as viruses may be hiding there).

Switch it on after you have finished with the scan.

Caution: Doing so will loose you all your System restore points
